3 Takeaways from the Beyond School Hours Conference!

What is the Beyond School Hours Conference?

The Beyond School Hours Conference is an event focused on the out-of-school time programs and services for young people. The conference provides opportunities for participants to learn about best practices, share their experiences and ideas, and network with other professionals in the field. It typically covers topics such as youth development, program design and delivery, community partnerships, and funding and sustainability. The aim is to provide a platform for professionals and organizations working in the field of youth development to collaborate and advance their work.

Takeaway 1: Staff Matters

This year was The Magicians Schools first time attending and exhibiting at the Beyond School Hours Conference. From the moment the conference began, we could tell this conference was special. A few of the sessions our team sat in on dealt with how the staff that is working with students really matter. Meaning that incorrectly or undertrained staff can affect a whole program. Even as members of The Magician School Team were talking with attendee's we heard similar stories about how they want to go back to their schools and try out some of the team building activities that were mentioned in the sessions. Students are directly affected and impacted by the staff and teams that work with them. So making sure that all staff members can clearly communicate, even under stressful times is super important.

Takeaway 2: Sonia Manzano

Sonia Manzano, popularly known as her character Maria from Sesame Street, gave an amazing amazing talk. Need we say more? Sonia also stuck around and signed books, talked and inspired many!

Takeaway 3: Students Are in Good Company

Although The Magician School didn't get to attend a lot of the events, we did get to speak with so many educators and leaders. We are all so inspired by all those who work with students day in and day out. Our students are in good company as so many are trying to put their best foot forward, making change in their communities and are giving students opportunities that may not exist with out these change makers. Its an exciting and challenging time to be in the education field. But the future is bright with so many educators wanting a better future filled with opportunity, growth and success for students.
